WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT MECHANIC II
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
- This is semi-skilled and skilled work involving the responsibility for maintenance and repair work in the wastewater treatment plant, collection lines, pumping facilities, and/or combined sewer overflow facilities of a wastewater collection and treatment system.
- Employees may be assigned to either a wastewater treatment plant or collection system or both with reassignments made by the Chief/Managing Operator or Senior Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.
- Employees assigned to a wastewater treatment facility may be required to assist in the operation and maintenance of all equipment and processes in the facility.
- Employees assigned to a collection system may be required to provide routine operations, maintenance, and housekeeping updates to the WWTP Operators and/or WWTP Mechanics.
- Further the employees in this class will assist the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators and/or employees of higher rank in the maintenance and repair of related equipment.
- The work is performed under the direct supervision of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator or an employee of higher rank, with detailed instructions given on new assignments.
- Employees in this class may be required to work rotating shifts and be on call.
- Employees may be required to operate motor equipment and provide manual labor as required within the wastewater treatment facility and/or collection system/pump stations and CSOs. Does related work, as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of common practices, tools, terminology, and safety precautions in the operation and maintenance of treatment plants; Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Good hand and eye coordination.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Manual dexterity.
- Reliability.
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma or graduation from an approved trade school and one (1) year of experience as a semi-skilled Laborer or work related to maintenance.
- Must possess a valid New York State driver's license in good standing and maintain it throughout employment.
