Job summary

The City of Bremerton is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Industrial Mechanic Trainee to perform skilled work in maintaining and repairing crucial wastewater facilities. Qualifications

Wastewater Treatment Plant Industrial Mechanic Trainee

General Function

The salary indicated above reflects longevity (1% earned after 5 years and increases to a maximum of 4% after 20 years).

Under direct supervision, performs skilled work in preventative maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification, removal, and installation of equipment and facilities at the City of Bremerton's wastewater treatment facilities, including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls, and telemetry systems. Ensures compliance with standards and permits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and repairs pumps, compressors, blowers, engines, valves, piping, and other equipment.
  • Plans, organizes, and prioritizes jobs, coordinating with vendors and departments, and manages jobs to completion.
  • Performs corrective and preventive maintenance, including inspections, adjustments, and repairs.
  • Performs design, fabrication, and installation of repairs.
  • Locates vendors, manages parts inventory, and maintains work records.
  • Installs machinery and diagnoses faults in pneumatic, plumbing, hydraulic, HVAC, and electrical systems.
  • Monitors and records equipment operation and maintenance activities.
  • Performs maintenance on facilities, vehicles, and equipment for safety and appearance.
  • Ensures compliance with laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Responds to public complaints regarding overflow and odors.
  • Performs welding and cutting tasks as needed.

Other Duties

Regular attendance and related work as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of maintenance materials, methods, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with pumps, compressors, and rotating equipment.
  • Proficiency with inventory and work order systems.
  • Understanding of process equipment and safety hazards.
  • Ability to read prints, blueprints, and technical reports.
  • Skill in operating maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work safely around electrical and other hazards.

Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D., with two years of industrial electrical/mechanical training and one year of wastewater experience preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Special Requirements

  • Valid Washington driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 12 months.
  • Certificates in forklift, flagger, and crane operations as required.
  • Willingness to work standby shifts and on-call.

Training and Advancement

Initial training under supervision. Must become proficient within 18 months to advance to a full Mechanic role. Failure to do so may result in removal from the trainee position.
