Brunswick County Public Utility is currently accepting applications for a Wastewater Treatment Operator to join our Northeast Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, located in Leland, North Carolina at 10480 Royster Road. Classified as a Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Facility by the NC Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ), Brunswick County Public Utilities provides wastewater (sewer) services to over 24,875 retail sewer customers and wholesale customers across a large service area. Our Public Utility team is committed to the community and prides itself on delivering high-quality wastewater treatment services daily.
The Wastewater Treatment Operator performs technical work in operating the Northeast Brunswick Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility, including maintenance and repair of equipment to ensure safety and health standards for Brunswick County citizens. Responsibilities include operating the plant daily, monitoring pumps, filter systems, tank levels, adjusting chemical feed dosages, reading charts, gauges, meters, and responding to wastewater and sewer emergencies.
The operator reports to the Chief Utility Plant Operator and must adhere to safety policies and procedures, exercising independent judgment and initiative in all tasks.
Brunswick County Public Utilities offers a career ladder program for advancement through promotion as employees attain higher NC Wastewater Operator Certification levels, with a 5% pay increase upon meeting promotion criteria.
Operators work Monday to Friday during the day, with occasional extended hours to meet facility needs. The position includes an on-call rotation for weekend work and responding to emergency calls after hours or during inclement weather.
High school diploma or GED, with experience in a wastewater treatment facility, or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge.
Ability to operate wastewater plant machinery and office equipment, including pumps, chlorinators, mixers, computers, radios, and vehicles. Must be able to exert up to 110 pounds of force occasionally, and perform walking, standing, stooping, bending, climbing, and reaching.
