JOB SUMMARY


The Wastewater Technician is responsible for the process of treating and disposing of wastewater, collecting data, and the inspection, operation and maintenance of the equipment that treats the wastewater.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Ensure that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner.

  • Operate equipment and utilize chemicals to purify and clarify water. Appropriately process and dispose of industrial wastewater.

  • Inspect, clean, repair, and maintain the condition of wastewater equipment, tanks, filter beds, and other areas.

  • Monitor operating conditions, meters, and gauges to determine load requirements and detect malfunctions.

  • Coordinate larger repairs and maintenance with the appropriate management personnel.

  • Collect, preserve, test, analyze, and record water and sewage samples with relation to National Pollution Discharge Elimination Systems.

  • Test, troubleshoot, and respond to all alarms at the facility and pumping or booster stations. Verify all backup systems are operational.

  • Maintain positive working relationships with clients and coworkers.

  • Attend preliminary and follow-up safety training as required.

  • Work long hours and overtime during day, night or weekend shifts.

  • Other reasonable directives, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.



EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS



  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

  • Three (3) years' experience in the environmental services industry experience is preferred.

  • Three (3) years' experience in waste water treatment is preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of industry best practices, risk assessment techniques, standards, and all applicable laws and regulations as they relate to the wastewater treatment field is required.

  • HAZWOPER certification and Confined Space Entry certification are highly preferred.

  • California Water Environmental Association (CWEA) certification highly preferred.

  • Frequent walking, standing, and physical activity.

  • Frequent carrying of weights from 0-50 pounds.

  • This job operates in a plant environment, with the possibility of both indoor and outdoor tasks.

  • The work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, requiring the adherence to basic safety measures.

  • The work environment may involve moderate exposure to the elements, including extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.

The anticipated hourly range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00, and includes benefits such as the following:
