Job summary

ABB is seeking a Wastewater Technician for onsite work in Jonesboro, Arkansas. You will focus on pretreatment, chemical management, sludge handling, and regulatory compliance to meet industrial discharge permits.

The role reports to Production and Maintenance Supervisors and requires a state wastewater operator license, SDS/OSHA knowledge, and a safety-first, self-motivated mindset.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• State-issued Industrial Wastewater Operator license is required.
• Strong understanding of safety data sheets (SDS) and OSHA regulations.
• Safety conscious, 5S driven, and ready to make immediate safety corrections.
• Self motivated and proactive in maintenance and compliance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Pretreatment Operations: Manage oil-water separators, clarification systems, and chemical precipitation units.
• Chemical Management: Dose neutralizing agents, coagulants, and polymers.
• Sludge Handling: Operate filter presses, centrifuges, and drying beds for dewatering and disposal prep.
• Source Monitoring: Inspect production lines and coordinate with plant operators during spikes.
• Regulatory Compliance: Document discharge metrics to prevent violations and shutdowns.

Wastewater Technician Core Responsibilities

Industrial wastewater technicians focus on treating manufacturing, chemical, or food processing byproducts rather than standard household sewage. Their work centers on removing heavy metals, toxic chemicals, oils, and complex organic compounds to meet strict local, state, and federal industrial discharge permits.

Key Responsibilities

• Pretreatment Operations: Manage oil-water separators, clarification systems, and chemical precipitation units.
• Chemical Management: Dosing neutralizing agents, coagulants, and polymers to handle highly variable influent chemistry.
• Sludge Handling: Operate filter presses, centrifuges, and drying beds to safely dewater and prepare hazardous or solid waste for disposal.
• Source Monitoring: Inspect production lines and coordinate with plant operators to manage sudden chemical or volume spikes.
• Regulatory Compliance: Document discharge metrics to prevent costly regulatory violations and plant shutdowns.

Qualifications and Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Specialized Certifications: State-issued Industrial Wastewater Operator license (often distinct from municipal certifications).
• Technical Knowledge: Understanding of specific chemical hazards, safety data sheets (SDS), and OSHA regulations.
• Safety conscious, 5S driven, and recommends safety corrections immediately.
• Self motivated
