Job summary

Franklin County is seeking a dedicated Utilities Maintenance Worker to maintain and repair water and sewer systems, lift stations, and treatment facilities. The role involves operating a range of tools and equipment, and performing semi-skilled to skilled tasks in varied outdoor and indoor environments.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid North Carolina driver’s license, and the ability to meet safety certification requirements within the first year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with some experience in semi-skilled maintenance or construction work.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license required upon hire.
• Certifications to be completed within first year: Trenching & Excavation, Confined Spaces, DOT Flagger, Defensive Driving.
• Willingness to work outdoors in extreme weather and around hazards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair water and sewer lines, lift stations, and wastewater plant equipment.
• Operate light to heavy equipment and use hand tools.
• Assist with water taps, meter reading, and related maintenance tasks.
• Work in confined spaces and around potential hazards; adhere to safety standards.
• On-call and weekly rotation; perform related duties as required.
