Job summary

Water Otter Job Board seeks a Process Engineer II to support the Blue Plains Wastewater Treatment Plant in Washington, DC. The role encompasses process evaluation, control strategy implementation, and asset management for efficient plant operations.

The engineer will analyze process data, troubleshoot complex issues, and develop and supervise improvement projects while ensuring regulatory compliance and safety standards are met.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant practices and safety precautions.
• Knowledge of EPA and OSHA requirements.
• 5+ years of progressive experience related to wastewater treatment processes.
• ABET‑accredited bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to operate digital control systems and related software.

Responsibilities

• Recommend policies, procedures, methods, and practices to ensure plant meets or exceeds permit requirements and improves safety, quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of operations.
• Develop strategies to meet process objectives and implement control strategies via Process Control and Computer System, PLC systems, and HMI software.
• Review and interpret design drawings and specifications for proposed changes; evaluate designs for cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance with industry practices.
• Design new systems or modify existing systems.
• Provide engineering support and guidance in troubleshooting complex process problems, including digital control software and equipment.
• Prepare technical reports and publish papers on wastewater treatment.
• Establish high standards for safety and quality; train subordinates.
