Job summary

Town of Bethlehem’s Department of Public Works is seeking candidates to join the wastewater treatment plant team. This entry-level role focuses on learning the operation, maintenance and inspection of pumps, valves and related equipment at the town’s facilities.

Starting salary is $47,040 with a range up to $57,750. Successful candidates may receive supplementary training toward certification as a wastewater treatment plant operator, with a focus on practical field and laboratory work.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude and comfort with general science concepts.
• Basic chemistry and lab testing understanding.
• Willingness to learn operation and maintenance of wastewater equipment.
• Ability to read gauges, meters and record data accurately.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Learn inspection, operation, adjustment, maintenance and repair of pumps, valves and related equipment.
• Assist in tests to determine chlorine residual.
• Clean channels, tanks, screens, and equipment.
• Assist in preparing and maintaining activity records and reports.
• Paint equipment, structures and sewage facilities.
