Job summary

Sanitary District Of Decatur is seeking an Operator to rotate through 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts, including weekends, to learn all aspects of district operations over up to two years. After training, shifts are assigned based on district needs and seniority.

The role involves reading meters, operating pumps and gates, interpreting lab data, performing maintenance, and ensuring proper wastewater treatment processes from preliminary to land application.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Experience with computers in a work environment.
• Experience in water/wastewater or industrial facility preferred.
• Ability to read and understand simple instructions.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to interpret laboratory data and operate with accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Reads meters/gauges to verify operating conditions.
• Operates pumps, valves, chemical feed systems, and gates.
• Completes preventative/repair work orders for process equipment.
• Records shift activity in logs and daily check sheets.
• Assists with shut-downs, start-ups and maintenance activities.
• Monitors plant operation; interprets lab data; controls treatment processes.
• Monitors alarms and takes corrective action.
• Cleans tanks, weirs, screens, and buildings.
• Operates sludge lagoon equipment and assists with land application of biosolids.
• Collects and analyzes samples.
