Job summary

The Sanitary District of Decatur is seeking a Senior Plant Operator to supervise daily operations of a 41 MGD wastewater treatment facility and lead a shift of operators. The role emphasizes regulatory compliance, safety, and process optimization to maintain high treatment performance.

Responsibilities include directing plant activities, coordinating with engineering and maintenance, and ensuring accurate reporting and data analysis.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; ten years of progressive experience operating an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant.
• Knowledge of SCADA and maintenance management software; ability to interpret regulations.
• Supervisory experience and ability to manage daily plant operations and staff.

Responsibilities

• Directs and coordinates daily operation of a 41 MGD wastewater treatment plant.
• Schedules and supervises plant operators across shifts; conducts tours and public relations.
• Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations including Clean Water Act and NPDES permits.
• Assists in budget preparation and equipment procurement; maintains safety program and SOPs.
