Job summary

Hernando County BOCC seeks a Wastewater Operator I to operate and maintain small to medium wastewater facilities and support the regulatory reporting to agencies. The role requires a Florida Class C wastewater license and valid driver’s license, with duties spanning sample collection, process monitoring, and routine repairs.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
• One (1) year of increasing responsible experience in the operation of and maintenance of wastewater treatment and collection systems.
• Must possess a Florida Department of Environmental Protection Class "C" operating license in wastewater treatment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record as defined by current insurance carrier.

Responsibilities

• Operates, maintains, and makes minor repairs to wastewater facilities and appurtenances.
• Prepares monthly and quarterly operating reports for regulatory agencies.
• Collects wastewater samples for laboratory testing and analyses; reviews results and modifies treatment processes to comply with regulations.
• Reports unusual changes in bacteria, chemicals or process parameters to the Chief Operator or Supervisor.
• Maintains and uses field test kits for chlorine residual, pH, and process control.
