Job summary

SCIT seeks a wastewater/water treatment specialist to operate, repair, and maintain wastewater treatment plant equipment under the supervision of the OIC/Utilities Manager. The role includes sampling, lab analyses, and off-site travel for contractual work.

Responsibilities include daily lab analyses, reactor analytics, preventive maintenance, and coordinating with multiple departments to ensure safe, compliant operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Three years wastewater/water field or related experience.
• Willingness to take microbiology, math and algebra courses.
• Ability to operate and maintain water and wastewater equipment.
• Strong communication and diagnostic skills.
• Background check required.

Responsibilities

• Set up lab and calibrate analytic equipment for sampling.
• Record all flows and readings per EPA reporting requirements.
• Perform daily lab analytic per EPA permit requirements.
• Biweekly lab analytics per EPA permit requirements.
• Set up reactor analytics for daily operation.
• Conduct plant walk-throughs and note concerns.
• Perform influent 5-day BODs.
• Collect and prepare samples per EPA permit regulations.
• Check and calibrate flow-proportional equipment.
• Perform UV disinfection analytics.
• Setup 24-hour samplers and chemical injection pumps.
• Pull pumps at lift stations; inspect and repair.
• General and preventive maintenance at wastewater and water plants and lift stations.
• Clean lab equipment and glassware after daily tests.
• Yard work and snow removal at plants.
• Preventive maintenance of pumps, motors, blowers.
• Assist with major water and wastewater projects.
• Operate EPA-required duties and readings; on-call 24/7.
