Job summary

The City of Twinsburg is seeking a full-time Wastewater Plant Operator to join our utility team. You will monitor plant readings, adjust process variables, perform daily lab tests, and maintain equipment while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Must possess Class I Wastewater Operator Certification issued by Ohio EPA.
• HS diploma or GED with 1 year related experience or equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and regulations.
• Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively.
• Ability to work with basic algebra/geometry and mathematical concepts.
• Ability to solve practical problems with concrete variables and limited standardization.
• Must have valid Ohio driver's license; CDL-B preferred and subject to drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Records operation and maintenance actions during shift.
• Monitors plant processes and alarm systems.
• Participates in city-sponsored training and education activities.
• Operates facility grounds maintenance equipment and vehicles.
• Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

This is a full-time, union position with benefits and time off, upon meeting eligibility requirements. Employees start out at pay range Level 1 and progress through seven pay range levels.

Work Hours: The available shift is from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday through Monday (Days off are Tuesday and Wednesday).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Takes plant readings and checks equipment to verify proper operating conditions.
• Monitors plant flow to make necessary adjustments to plant processes during high flow conditions.
• Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or shut down equipment.
• Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for maintenance, repair, or lubrication.
• Conducts daily laboratory testing necessary for adjustment to plant processes.
• Monitors and adjusts chemical feed systems.
• Records operation and maintenance actions taken during shift.
• Monitors plant processes and equipment alarm systems.
• Must participate in all city-sponsored training and continuing education activities, including classroom, manufacturer-provided seminars, etc.
• Operates various facility grounds maintenance equipment and sludge hauling vehicles.
• Must maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess a Class I Wastewater Operator Certification License issued by the Ohio EPA.
• High School diploma or general education degree (GED), and one (1) year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, general business periodicals, professional journals and, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to recognize potentially unsafe conditions and behaviors and correct them in a positive and appropriate manner.
• Working knowledge of safety practices in the operation of electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. A Class B Commercial Driver’s License endorsement is preferred. This position is subject to drug testing as required for CDL drivers.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States.

The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
