Job summary

Darling Ingredients in Michigan is seeking a Wastewater Operator to control water flows and plant equipment, performing tests and maintenance to ensure proper operation of all wastewater-related equipment. This role supports biological systems and follows plant priorities as directed by the Plant Manager.

Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED and at least 1 year of experience in a rendering facility or production environment; willingness to obtain a wastewater certificate

Responsibilities

• Operate evaporator and plant skimmer correctly.
• Handle chemical inventory and dosing in wastewater processes.
• Perform wastewater tests as needed to ensure proper operation.
• Operate DAF, monitor flows, and control processes in treatment.
• Keep pumps, valves, meters clean; monitor aerators and mixers.
• Assist maintenance with projects and area responsibilities.
• Monitor disinfection systems and scrubbers; operate cooling towers.
• Apply chemicals to sustain operations, move grease solids with forklift.

Job Summary

The Wastewater Operator controls water flows and processes through plant equipment and in biological systems. Performs tests, maintenance, etc. to ensure proper operation of all wastewater-related equipment. Other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Proper operation of the evaporator.
• Proper operation of plant skimmer.
• Chemical inventory and addition throughout wastewater treatment processes.
• Perform wastewater tests as needed.
• Proper operation of DAF
• Control flows throughout wastewater treatment processes
• Daily clean foot valves and flow meters at pump stations.
• Monitor MBBRs.
• Service and Lube pumps and gear boxes as needed.
• Help maintenance with projects or work in area of responsibility.
• Monitor aerators and mixers.
• Proper operation of disinfection system.
• Proper operation of all scrubbers and ancillary equipment.
• Proper operation of cooling towers.
• Apply chemicals to sustain a minimum of a 24-hour period.
• Dumps a container of grease solids using a forklift.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 1-year prior experience in a rendering facility or production environment.
• Willing to obtain wastewater certificate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Must be a self-starter and stay busy with constructive work with little supervision.
• Good with math.
• Good oral communication skills.
• Good penmanship.

Physical Demands

• Frequently lifts up to 10 lbs.
• Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, climbing, pulling, pushing and crawling.

Work Environment

Outside in all types of weather. Hot and humid in plant. In and around and working with moving parts and equipment.
