Job summary

Darling Ingredients seeks a Wastewater Operator in Fayetteville, NC to control flows and processes in the plant, run tests, maintain equipment, and ensure reliable wastewater operation. The shift pattern is four 12‑hour rotations (6:00 PM–6:00 AM) on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Saturday.

Essential duties include operating evaporator, DAF, MBBRs, aerators, disinfect systems, scrubbers, pumps and gearboxes; monitoring chemical inventory; performing wastewater tests; and supporting maintenance

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum one year of prior experience in a rendering facility or production environment.
  • Willingness to obtain a wastewater certificate.
  • Self-starter who can remain productive with little supervision.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Good oral communication.
  • Clean penmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the evaporator, skimmer, DAF, MBBRs, aerators, mixers, disinfection system, scrubbers, ancillary equipment, and cooling towers.
  • Control flows throughout wastewater treatment processes.
  • Maintain chemical inventory and add chemicals as required.
  • Perform wastewater tests and apply chemicals to sustain operation for at least 24 hours.
  • Clean foot valves and flow meters at pump stations daily.
  • Service and lubricate pumps and gearboxes as needed.
  • Assist maintenance with projects in the area of responsibility.
  • Dump a container of grease solids using a forklift.

Job Summary

The Wastewater Operator controls water flows and processes through plant equipment and biological systems, performs tests, maintains equipment, and ensures proper operation of all wastewater‑related systems. Additional duties are assigned by the Plant Manager.

Physical Demands

The position requires the ability to stand, walk and move around the plant, use hands to operate equipment and lift objects up to 25 pounds. Periodic climbing, stooping and operating a forklift are expected. Adequate vision is required to safely operate equipment and to detect hazards.
