Job summary

Darling Ingredients is hiring a Wastewater Operator to control water flows and processes in our plant. You will run tests, perform maintenance, and support the Plant Manager in daily operations.

Shifts are four 12-hour blocks weekly: 6:00 AM–6:00 PM on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Saturday. Candidates should have WW certification or 3 years WW experience and be prepared to obtain additional certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Waste Water certification or 3 years WW experience required.
• Minimum 1 year prior experience in rendering facility or production environment.
• Willingness to obtain a wastewater certificate.

Responsibilities

• Operate the evaporator properly.
• Operate the plant skimmer properly.
• Maintain chemical inventory and add chemicals during wastewater treatment.
• Perform wastewater tests as needed.
• Operate the DAF properly.
• Control flows throughout wastewater treatment processes.
• Daily clean foot valves and flow meters at pump stations.
• Monitor MBBRs.
• Service and lubricate pumps and gearboxes as needed.
• Assist maintenance with projects in the area of responsibility.
• Monitor aerators and mixers.
• Operate the disinfection system properly.
• Operate all scrubbers and ancillary equipment properly.
• Operate cooling towers properly.
• Apply chemicals to sustain a minimum 24-hour period.
• Dumps a container of grease solids using a forklift.

Job Summary

The Wastewater Operator controls water flows and processes through plant equipment and biological systems. Performs tests, maintenance, and other duties to ensure proper operation of all wastewater‑related equipment. Other duties are assigned by the Plant Manager.

Shift Hours

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Waste Water certified or have 3 years of Waste Water experience.
• Minimum 1‑year prior experience in a rendering facility or production environment.
• Willingness to obtain a wastewater certificate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Self‑starter with the ability to stay busy with constructive work with little supervision.
• Good with math.
• Good oral communication skills.
• Good penmanship.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Working Environment: None – occasional up to 20%, frequent 21%–50%, constant at least 51%.

Exposures: Unpleasant or disagreeable physical environments such as high noise level, strong odors, heat and cold; biohazardous conditions; toxic or caustic chemicals requiring safety precautions; electrical hazards and risk of electrical shock; handling dangerous equipment; traveling to offsite locations.
