Job summary

The City of Cape Girardeau is seeking a maintenance technician to inspect, repair, and maintain wastewater treatment plant and lift station equipment. The role involves troubleshooting electrical/mechanical systems, operating and programming SCADA, and performing biosolids handling in compliance with EPA regulations.

Responsibilities include relaying between manuals and field work, reading schematics, and responding to emergencies.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; three years related experience in equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant and lift station equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and installation/repair instructions.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations.

  • Paint equipment and buildings; perform preventative maintenance.
  • Perform biosolids testing and ensure EPA 503 compliance; transport biosolids.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs; work non-standard hours as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job description

POSITION TYPE: Hourly, Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing wastewater treatment plant and lift station equipment.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment; rebuild equipment, including gearboxes and electrical motors at the wastewater treatment facility and lift stations.
  • Reads and interprets complex information from manuals, diagrams and schematics to perform maintenance, repair and replacement activities for plant equipment, electronics and facilities.
  • Maintain and repairs lift stations in the City of Cape Girardeau; clean rag screening equipment, back-flush pumps, and remove grease from wet wells.
  • Monitor the supervisory control and data acquisition system; Assist in programming and maintaining the supervisory control and data acquisition system; program logic controllers; program wireless modems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions using voltage meter, resistance measurement device, continuity meter and amp meter; install new electrical services.
  • Paint equipment and buildings.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Perform biosolids testing; treat biosolids to ensure compliance with EPA 503 regulations: transport biosolids.
  • Work non standard hours as required.
  • Perform lab tests.
  • Respond to emergency call out situations as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Skill in the repair and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant and lift station equipment and procedures.
  • Skill in the analysis and diagnosis of equipment problems.
  • Skill in the operation of trucks and other heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of computer programming, maintenance, and software applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electronic schematic drawings, and manufacturer’s installation/repair instructions.
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduation or equivalency required and three (3) years related experience in equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Must possess or obtain within two (2) years of the first day of employment a Missouri Class “D” wastewater license.
  • Must possess a Missouri Class “E” CDL license. Will be required to obtainand maintain a valid Class “A” CDL license with tanker endorsement.

Salary per hour $22.18, plus a generous benefit package.

  • Bi-weekly pay periods.
  • Thirteenpaid holidays per year.
  • 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
  • 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
  • 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
  • City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
  • City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
  • Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
  • Optional vision insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
  • Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.

  • Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $31.18hourly.
