Job description

The City of Lansing is seeking full-time Wastewater Maintenance Workers in one of the largest wastewater facilities in Michigan. This is a great opportunity for individuals to apply their knowledge and skillset to the maintenance and operation of the wastewater treatment plant, pump stations (electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment), and lawn, grounds, and landscaping tasks. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License, Group B with Air brake and N (tank) endorsement including the DOT mandated medical card, HIGHLY preferred OR must be able to obtain a CDL B with N (tank) endorsement AND DOT medical card within 90 days from date of hire, or will be terminated.
  • May be subject to emergency call-in and shift work as required.
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
  • High School Diploma or GED required (college level coursework in an industrial or mechanical field of study preferred); AND
  • Four (4) years of experience in the operation and repair of wastewater pumping equipment or wastewater treatment plant equipment of which two (2) years must have been in a mechanical maintenance and repair capacity.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Maintains a variety of process equipment used at the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Enters manholes and other confined spaces as required in accordance with all applicable safety procedures.
  • Maintains written and electronic records of work performed and supplies used.
  • Drives and operates a pick-up truck for snow removal and towing generators to work sites. Operates a vehicle and trailer with a combined weight (GVW) of over 10,000 pounds.
  • Provides training and work direction to new or temporary assigned workers.
  • May mow grass, trim trees and bushes along with other grounds keeping activities.
  • May perform maintenance on Plant and Pump Station buildings.
  • Fabricates parts and rebuilds equipment.
Post-Hire Requirements:
  • Must complete and pass MDOT Drug & Alcohol Training.
  • Must pass and maintain Confined Space Training and Certification.
  • Must pass and maintain Powered Industrial Truck and Aerial Work Platform Training and Certifications.
  • Selected candidate(s) will be offered as a condition of employment to participate in an employer paid Hepatitis B inoculation program.
