Job summary

Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority is seeking a Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic C in Duck Key, FL to perform specialized maintenance and repair of wastewater facilities’ mechanical systems, pumps, valves, and treatment units. Reports to the Mechanic Foreman and Supervisors, with emphasis on safety and reliability.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, plus four years of related experience or training in pipefitting, mechanical, pumps or electrical work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; plus trade training in pipefitting, mechanical, pumps, or electrical.
• Four years of related experience and/or training, including FKAA maintenance mechanic experience, or equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license; must obtain a valid Florida Class A CDL within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs repairs and maintenance on all mechanical equipment, machinery, valves, piping, gauges, and related equipment at wastewater facilities.
• Operates and maintains pumps, tanks, mixers, blowers, and treatment units; conducts basic electrical troubleshooting.
• Assists with installations, repairs, and modifications of collection systems and treatment facilities.

Salary Range: $58,373.60 To $89,382.38 Annually

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to perform specialized maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, equipment,

valves, diesel engines, pumps, treatment units, chemical feed systems, and collection systems at the Authority’s

wastewater treatment facilities. Position reports to the WW Mechanic Foreman and/or Wastewater Supervisors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not

exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.

Other duties may be required and assigned.

Performs repairs, and maintenance on all mechanical equipment, machinery, valves, piping, gauges, and associated

equipment involved in the wastewater treatment plant process and collection systems including, but not limited to:

vacuum pump station equipment, influent screens, chemical feed systems, tanks, mixers, blowers, diffusers, , pumping

equipment, treatment units, sand and/or disc filters, gravity, low pressure, and vacuum collection systems.

Performs maintenance and repair on all mechanical equipment, machinery, valves, piping, and associated equipment of

the Authority's wastewater treatment plants, transmission stations and lift stations.

Assists with modifications of wastewater collection systems and treatment facilities.

Determines means to correct mechanical equipment and systems deficiencies, extend performance capabilities, and

meet new requirements.

Interprets maintenance manuals, mechanical drawings, schematics and diagrams in order to perform the necessary

maintenance and repair of assigned equipment, machinery, and systems.

Assists in requisitioning and maintaining repair and spare parts on site.

Uses and maintains hand tools, power tools, and test equipment as assigned.

Performs basic electrical troubleshooting on control and power circuits, motors, submersible pumps and other process

or collection system related electrical equipment.

Performs concrete and carpentry work.

Ensures that work areas, buildings, and grounds are kept in order.

Assists with new service lateral and/or low-pressure simplex station installs.

Locates FKAA sewer mains, force mains, vacuum mains, reuse mains and electrical services for other utilities and

contractors.

Assists with confined space entries.

Operates heavy equipment as required.

Performs maintenance and repair of buildings and tanks; maintains grounds, including cutting grass, fertilizing,

trimming, planting and caring for trees, and cleaning walkways and roadways.

Cleans, oils, and maintains yard equipment and tools.

Performs janitorial duties, such as cleaning lavatories and windows, sweeping and moping, and waxing floors.

Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, or other documents.

Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews,

completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to

coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Utilizes company issued purchasing card to procure supplies and materials necessary to complete daily assignments.

Reconciles monthly statements.

Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college level course work or vocational training in pipefitting,

mechanical, pumps, electrical; supplemented by four (4) years previous experience and/or training that includes

pipefitting, mechanical, electrical and pump experience, including experience as a FKAA Maintenance Mechanic; or

any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and

abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license. Must obtain a valid Florida Class A

CDL within 12 months of hire. Must be able to communicate and comprehend the English language.
