Job summary

City of Hutchinson is seeking a Laboratory Technician to sample, test, and document water quality and the performance of both the Water Treatment Center and the Wastewater Treatment Facility. The role requires strong communication, organization, technical, mechanical, and public relations skills.

Schedule is 6:00am–2:30pm, Monday to Friday. You will perform microbiological testing, maintain lab records, and ensure state and EPA certifications are kept current.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical biology/chemistry coursework preferred.
• Minimum of one year of similar or related experience.
• Must obtain Class I Kansas Wastewater Operator Certification and Class I Wastewater Laboratory Technician Certification within one year of employment; valid Kansas driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Perform compliance monitoring analysis on collected wastewater samples using approved methods.
• Collect and analyze daily water samples for process control at the Water Treatment Center and wastewater samples for process control.
• Collect composite and grab samples from permitted industries; collect monthly total coliform samples for lab shipment.
