Job summary

North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) is seeking a Wastewater Operations Supervisor I to monitor and supervise the operation and maintenance of wastewater facilities. You will train and lead staff, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage budgets and asset projects to deliver reliable conveyance of wastewater.

The role requires five years of wastewater conveyance experience, Texas licensure, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; an Associate Degree or trade certification preferred.
• TX Class III Wastewater Collection license or Class B Wastewater Treatment license is required or preferred.
• Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License.

This position manages operations and maintenance personnel who perform a variety of work assignments to ensure that regulatory compliance limits are met, assets are maintained in acceptable condition, and water quality, health and safety standards are met or exceeded. This position I also performs and/or supervises related work as required to ensure efficient and effective facility operations.Job Description:• Oversees all aspects of assigned operations and maintenance activities.• Trains, develops, mentors, and evaluates staff. Cultivates an environment of Integrity, Trust, Respect, Unity, Safety, and Teamwork.• Ensures system operations are adequately monitored and controlled to provide reliable and efficient conveyance of wastewater that meets or exceeds all regulatory requirements.• Participates in planning of and oversees assigned maintenance and asset management projects for facility assets, including implementation of maintenance and reliability practices and principles and inventory control.• Collaborates with Operations Professional Engineer to ensure capital improvement projects meet Operations needs. Acts as a facility contact during construction projects.• Participates in development of facility operations and maintenance budgets and facility major maintenance projections in collaboration with internal stakeholders.• Communicates effectively up and down the chain of command about all aspects of personnel matters, facility operations, and organizational direction.• Enforces safety policies and guidelines as required by State statutes and as prescribed by NTMWD. Ensures safe work practices are identified, implemented, and followed.• Identifies and responds to deficiencies and emergencies. Communicates about status, develops and implements solutions, and participates in after-action review and follow-up tasks.• Monitors the facilities for any breaches of security and alert appropriate law enforcement agencies and/or supervisors, as appropriate for the situation.• Trains personnel to receive shipments, monitor unloading processes, record into inventory, and check shipment documents for compliance to standard.• Contributes to continuous improvement and optimization efforts of the system.• Responds to assigned stakeholder inquiries regarding facilities in a timely and effective manner.• Leads staff through organizational change and adapts to evolving industry trends.• Ensures logs and records, in both written and electronic form, are complete and accurate.• Performs oversight of facility grounds and general housekeeping.• Complies with and enforces applicable NTMWD policies and procedures.• Assumes the responsibilities of direct supervisors and subordinates as required.• Performs other duties as assigned.Job RequirementsEducation & Experience:• Possess a high school diploma or GED; an Associate Degree or trade certification is preferred.• Possess five (5) years of experience in wastewater conveyance and pumping or suitable relevant experience, as determined by NTMWD.• Maintain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Class III Wastewater Collection Operator's License or a Class B Wastewater Treatment Operator's License.• Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:• Maintain in-depth knowledge on conveyance and pumping facilities, compliance requirements, operations and maintenance requirements, and reporting/record keeping requirements; including the ability to troubleshoot wastewater equipment and processes and be knowledgeable with performing wastewater tests and interpreting results.• Possess a strong ability to manage personnel.• Possess administrative, planning, and project management capabilities.• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.• Possess computer skills necessary to enable completing major responsibilities.Environmental & Physical Working Conditions:Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.The duties and responsibilities are generally performed in a conveyance and pumping system environment. The position involves sitting (up to 6 hours per day), frequent standing, driving, frequent walking, light to heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.), light carrying, frequent bending and reaching, keyboarding, and telephone operation. It often requires an irregular work schedule and overtime hours. Specific physical conditions require frequent work with chemicals, tools, machinery, moving mechanical parts, etc.The duties and responsibilities are performed both indoors and outdoors. Moderate to heavy exposure to sun, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, biological hazards, rain, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials and chemicals, machinery, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, and water hazards are common. Performs and reviews work at locations that involve hazardous environments requiring the physical ability to wear and work using personal protective equipment (PPE) that meet or exceed guidelines such as established by OSHA which may result in some physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, odors, chemicals and noise.
