The unit works in a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change. The primary onsite location is the South Treatment Plant at 1200 Monster Rd SW, Renton, WA 98057, USA. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment. Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is non-exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
Work is performed mainly in the field at wastewater treatment facilities of various types throughout King County. These sites may not be served by public transit. There will be frequent entry into hazardous confined spaces to perform work that may require the individual to work bent over while walking through small pipelines or other confined spaces. Inspection work requires entry into live sewer pipelines and structures. Live sewer pipelines and structures contain domestic, commercial, and industrial waste including medical waste and a variety of industrial solvents. Exposure to raw sewage, blood borne pathogens, potentially hazardous chemicals, street traffic and electrical installations is part of the normal working condition. Unusual hazards, including explosive gases, toxic gases, and infectious, disease-producing micro-organisms may be present. Extensive driving is also required, and a vehicle is assigned to the position. Work pressure, disturbances of workflow and/or irregularities in work schedule is expected to occur.
