Job summary

Middlesex Water Company in Perth Amboy, NJ seeks a Collection System Worker II under the supervision of the Collection System Supervisor to perform maintenance, operation, and repair tasks in the wastewater collection system and pump stations.

The role requires a valid NJ driver’s license, Class B CDL or ability to obtain one within six months, flexibility for overtime and on-call work, and the ability to work outdoors year-round in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid NJ driver’s license is required.
• Class B CDL or ability to obtain one within six months of employment.
• Overtime and emergency standby availability.
• Willingness to work outdoors year-round.
• Excellent attendance record is expected.
• Ability to speak, read, write and understand English; Spanish helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, operation and repair tasks in the City’s wastewater collection system and pump stations.
• Operate hydro cleaner and sewer vacuum truck to flush systems and remove clogs.
• Respond to emergencies and conduct line locating and marking.
• Inspect and maintain pump stations and appurtenances; read maps and understand system layouts.
• Conduct traffic control, install barricades and manage safety around work sites.
• Assist in raising manholes, repairing sewer mains and masonry work as needed.
• Maintain company vehicles and communicate with customers and colleagues.
