Job summary

Fairfax County Government is seeking an Engineer III (Project Manager) to lead wastewater capital improvement projects within the WDCD. You will oversee design and construction management from concept to close-out, coordinating with consultants, contractors, and county stakeholders.

The role requires strong project management, communication skills, and knowledge of wastewater collection systems and regulations. A hybrid work arrangement is available, with potential after the introductory period.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering/architectural field and 3 years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience managing capital improvement projects in wastewater.
• Project management and construction contract administration experience.
• Knowledge of wastewater collection systems and regulatory requirements.
• Experience conducting or facilitating public meetings.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage capital projects from concept to close-out, including contractor selection, design coordination, and documentation.
• Serve as primary contact with the design consultant, contractor, and agencies; maintain project documentation.
• Address technical, design and scope questions during planning, design and construction, including pump stations and sewer lines.
• Perform design and construction contract administration for complex wastewater projects.
• Act as Construction Manager for bidding, construction contract administration, and facility start-up.
• Occasionally respond to after-hours sanitary sewer emergencies when resources are needed.
• Work in a fast-paced, collaborative team and provide excellent customer service to using agencies and stakeholders.
• This position may telework up to 2–3 days per week after introductory period.
