Position Overview
Under close supervision, maintain, clean, inspect, repair, and test sewer lines, collection facilities, and pumping sites. Perform general maintenance duties including operating equipment, making concrete, and asphalt work.
Salary Range
- Wastewater Collection Maintenance Worker Trainee: $20.18/hour
- Wastewater Collection Maintenance Worker I: $21.42 - $28.16/hour

Key Responsibilities
For Trainee:
- Maintain and clean sewer lines with hand and power tools
- Inspect sewer lines with television and sound equipment
- Locate lines and install or repair sewer mains
- Test lines with specialized equipment
- Perform maintenance on sewer equipment
- Raise and seal manholes, including concrete work and traffic control
- Inspect and maintain sewer pumping facilities
- Perform other duties as assigned
For Worker I:
- Maintain and clean sewer lines, inspect with television equipment
- Locate and repair sewer lines, install mains
- Inspect and maintain pump stations and equipment
- Train new employees and respond to emergencies
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and 1 year of maintenance or heavy labor experience
- Ability to perform manual labor in challenging conditions, including contact with sewage
- Ability to fit through manholes
- Valid driver’s license or driving privilege card
Desired Qualifications
- Valid Utah Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B)
- Experience in wastewater system maintenance
Working Conditions
- Heavy lifting, outdoor work in all weather, exposure to hazards and raw sewage
- Potential exposure to stress and biological hazards
Career Ladder
After 2 years, successful performance may lead to advancement to WW Collection Maintenance Worker II, subject to approval.
Additional Notes
Must pass a physical exam, may be called for overtime and callbacks, and work involves exposure to raw sewage and disease. Immunizations may be recommended.
This is a full-time position with a salary range of $20.18 to $28.16/hour, under the Department of Public Utilities.
