Job summary

Liberty University is seeking a Waste & Streets Management Technician I to support campus waste and street operations. You will work both independently and with the Grounds team, following assignments, maintaining equipment, and performing snow removal as needed.

The role requires LU student status, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to lift over 50 pounds. A positive attitude, strong communication, and basic MS Office skills are desired.

  • Certifications obtained while employed reimbursed by Liberty University.

Responsibilities

  • Report to work on time and follow duties as assigned by Supervisor/ Grounds Director.
  • Assist other Waste & Streets team members to complete tasks.
  • Maintain and clean equipment; ensure PPE is worn during operations.
  • Collect refuse from small cans to dumpsters and clean streets/parking lots.
  • Repair/maintain signage, street markings, and crosswalks as needed.
  • Transport equipment on/off campus and operate light/heavy vehicles.
  • Perform snow removal and weather-related cleanup when required.
  • Remain aware of safety practices and LU policies during all tasks.

The Waste & Streets Management Technician I is responsible for assisting in the service of waste and street operations. Working both independently and as a team, exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job.Essential Functions and Responsibilities1. Reports to work at the required time, follows, and performs duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Manager, and/ or the Grounds Director.2. Follows daily and weekly work assignments.3. Will assist other Waste & Streets management technicians to work as a team and complete assigned tasks.4. Responsible for equipment maintenance and cleaning.5. Responsible for refuse collection from small cans & totters to dumpsters.6. Responsible for street and parking lot cleaning and marking, paint and decal applications for crosswalks, etc.7. Responsible for street repairs when needed.8. Responsible for signage repairs when needed.9. Responsible for transporting equipment on and off-campus locations.10. Thorough knowledge of campus.11. Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed, including some nights and weekends.12. All other duties as assigned.13. Operates light/ heavy-duty vehicles, backhoes, and push/ riding mowers, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, chain saws, hydraulic boom, stripping machines, crack fill machines, line extractors, golf carts & UTVs. Pickup trucks with trailer, box truck, front-end loader, and tractor. Small tools, and any other equipment associated with the waste, and streets trade.14. Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while operating Grounds related equipment including but not limited to; protective eyewear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed boots, respirators/ masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen.15. As Essential Personnel you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Maintenance personnel are essential to the overall success of Commencement (May) and Orientation and Move-in (August) weekend events and special events that are scheduled in facilities throughout the year and must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise. Performs snow removal activities as assigned, such as shoveling, salting, etc.16. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks.17.
