Job Description

The Waste Removal Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of waste and recyclable materials between designated facilities and campuses. This position will operate company vehicles to collect, transport, and dispose of waste materials in designated compactors, open-top containers, front-load containers, and other approved waste receptacles.

Schedules
  • 7:30am - 3:30pm
  • 8:00am - 4:30pm
Pay

$17.00 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Safely operate assigned company vehicles in accordance with company policies, traffic laws, and facility safety requirements.
  • Transport waste, recycling, and other approved materials between designated campuses and disposal locations.
  • Collect and deliver waste materials to designated compactors, open-top containers, front-load containers, dumpsters, and other approved receptacles.
  • Verify that waste is placed in the correct designated container or disposal area.
  • Inspect the vehicle before and after each shift and report any damage, mechanical issues, safety concerns, or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and professional appearance of the assigned vehicle, including the cab, exterior, and cargo areas.
  • Secure waste and materials properly during transportation to prevent shifting, falling, leaking, or creating roadway hazards.
  • Ensure waste removal areas are left clean and free of loose trash, debris, spills, or materials after each service.
  • Pick up loose debris around dumpsters, compactors, and loading areas when necessary to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Monitor waste containers and communicate when containers are full, damaged, inaccessible, or require additional service.
  • Follow established routes, schedules, campus access procedures, and security requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of waste pickups, deliveries, container locations, and other required service information.
  • Communicate professionally with facility personnel, operations teams, supervisors, vendors, and client representatives.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report spills, leaks, damaged containers, unsafe conditions, vehicle accidents, or other incidents immediately to management.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and demonstrate a professional appearance while representing the company.
Working Conditions

Working conditions may require extended periods of walking, standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, squatting, stooping, and reaching overhead; climbing stairs or ladders; pushing and pulling equipment or materials; lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds; and working in various physical positions while safely handling equipment, waste, and materials.

Environmental / Safety Requirements

Due to the nature of the position, the employee will primarily work outdoors and may be exposed to:

  • Extreme heat, cold, humidity, rain, wind, and other varying weather conditions.
  • Dust, dirt, waste-related odors, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
  • Loud or prolonged noise from vehicles, compactors, dumpsters, machinery, and other equipment.
  • Moving vehicles, waste collection equipment, heavy machinery, compactors, loading areas, and other industrial or campus traffic.
  • Required PPE, which may include safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility vests, hearing protection, respiratory protection, protective clothing, and safety-toe footwear, depending on the work environment and site requirements.

To operate a vehicle at the customer’s site, employees must obtain an ABM drivers permit per the ABM Drivers Safety MVR registration program. This policy checks for a valid State ID along with a citation background check, and those with high-risk driving habits will need additional driver education to obtain the permit. Employees who operate company vehicles must consistently meet the requirements of the Facility Vehicle Safety Program.
