Job summary

Columbia County is seeking a Solid Waste Outreach Specialist to join the Public Works Department's Waste Management team. This full-time Civil Service position supports recycling, waste reduction, and household hazardous waste education in the unincorporated areas.

The role involves designing outreach programs, conducting trainings, creating educational materials with graphic design software, and presenting to households, businesses, schools, and community groups.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to a two-year degree in communication, public relations, education, or related field.
• Two years' of increasingly responsible experience in the development, coordination, and delivery of public information and communication, or community outreach programs.
• Substitution of experience and training for the above requirements may be allowed.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement waste reduction programs in accordance with changes in waste-related legislation.
• Educate households, businesses, schools, and community groups on waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and hazardous waste management.
• Conduct presentations and trainings; design educational materials using graphic design software; promote programs through events and media outlets.
