Job summary

Veolia North America seeks a Waste Processing Team Lead to guide Environmental Technicians in hazardous waste handling, testing, and compliant operations across sites. This role does not have direct reports but requires coaching and project oversight to deliver safe, cost-effective outcomes.

You will ensure regulatory compliance, maintain accurate records, train staff, and coordinate with management on facility needs while following Clean Earth and Veolia safety policies, with a strong emphasis

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older per federal/state laws.
  • 2+ years hazardous waste experience (preferred).
  • 40 hours OSHA training with 8-hour refresher (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Segregate and package material for transport and complete required paperwork.
  • Oversee technicians and large projects from receipt to settlement.
  • Collect samples and perform onsite testing for unknown materials.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local permit requirements.
  • Train technicians on equipment operation and paperwork.
  • Operate forklift and other heavy equipment when trained.
  • Maintain operational documentation and reports.
  • Report incidents or safety concerns to management.

Job Description

Under the guidance of the Waste Processing Supervisor, the Waste Processing Team Lead helps oversee a team of Environmental Technicians that perform routine and frequent manual and heavy labor tasks to properly
consolidate, treat, store, pack, transport and/or dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with environmentally
responsible and cost-effective practices and Clean Earth policies, practices and procedures. The Waste Processing Team Lead will maintain records with accuracy and attention to detail and will need to be able to follow instruction and to work independently. The Waste Processing Team Lead will help to train the Environmental Technicians to ensure they work compliantly and safely. This is not a supervisory role and does not have direct reports.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Segregate and package material for transport and complete required paperwork in a legible, accurate, and timely manner in accordance with appropriate regulations and Customer/Clean Earth policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Oversee a team of technicians and oversee large projects and orders from receipt to settlement.
  • Collect samples of inbound waste and perform onsite testing for unknown materials.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local permit requirements.
  • Communicate to management facility needs, difficulties, and changes in operations.
  • Provide training and coaching to technicians and operators on-the-job in equipment operation, service line processes, and necessary paperwork.
  • Operate fork trucks and other heavy equipment when properly trained to move materials for storage/loading and off-loading.
  • Maintain operational documentation including but not limited to reports, licenses, procedures, DOT requirements, and order requirements.
  • Promptly report any incidents, injuries or safety concerns to management.
  • Adhere to and abide by Clean Earth safety and security policies and procedures (e.g.Cardinal Rules, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), etc.)Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by management.
  • Responsibilities may vary based on site level and/or location.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associate’s degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science-related field (preferred)

Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older in accordance with federal and state labor laws
  • 2+ years of experience working with hazardous waste (preferred)
  • Completion of 40 hours OSHA training with 8-hour refresher course (preferred)

Skills:

  • May be required to pass a DEA background check based on site
  • Forklift certified with possession of safe driving record (preferred)
  • Knowledge of RCRA, DOT, EPA, and state waste regulations
  • Ability to operate manual equipment such as a pallet jack to load and unload trucks
  • Ability to use a computer for web-based training and inventory tracking purposes
  • Ability to understand and respond to written and verbal English
  • Ability to deal politely with customers and team members
  • Ability to oversee large projects and lead a team
Additional Information

Hourly Rate: $29.50

In addition, commencing no later than January 1, 2027, benefits package will include participation in an employer sponsored 401(k) plan, to save for retirement.
