Job summary

Republic Services is seeking a Chemist in Los Angeles to perform chemical analyses of hazardous and non-hazardous waste using EPA methods and internal SOPs. The role involves preparing samples, operating instruments, validating methods, and maintaining quality and documentation to ensure compliant treatment and disposal.

The position requires 4–7 years of relevant experience in waste disposal or chemistry, with strong knowledge of regulations (RCRA/TSCA) and proficiency in Excel/Word/PowerPoint.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of chemistry principles and waste processing protocols.
  • Skilled in performing proper analysis; presenting findings concisely; data reporting.
  • Negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with associates and managers.
  • Detail-oriented, with a high level of accuracy and detecting data inconsistencies.
  • Awareness of quality management standards, including ISO and NELAC.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint applications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of RCRA, TSCA, and applicable state regulations.
  • Knowledge of waste streams and reporting software.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preparation techniques and instrumental analysis of environmental samples for the determination of organic and inorganic constituents using EPA methods and Republic Services SOPs/WIs.
  • Contributes to generation of SOPs/WIs under supervision of Laboratory Manager.
  • Prepares samples for laboratory equipment.
  • Operates instruments, ensures data processing and documentation accuracy.
  • Validates methods for testing organics and inorganics across diverse processes and instruments.
  • Conducts IDOC prior to data reporting and maintains annual DOC for each method.
  • Identifies chemical content of materials and researches appropriate treatment studies.
  • Supports development of formulas, processes, and methods for solving technical problems.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Keeps up with quality control calculations for applicable methods.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
