Job summary

Self Help Africa invites applications for a WASH Engineer (Maternity Cover) based in Mponela. The role oversees design, procurement, and construction of WASH infrastructure under the DIWASH programme, ensuring quality and community-managed solutions.

The engineer will lead technical planning, supervision of civil technicians, and reporting, aligning with SPHERE standards and GoM guidance. English fluency and Regional collaboration are essential for delivering results.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, water engineering, water resources management or related field.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in WASH-related development projects; NGO experience preferred.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, EPANET, Google Earth, mWater and MS Office.
Experience in design, implementation, operation and maintenance of solar powered water systems.
Experience in community-based management and capacity building.

Responsibilities

Provide technical design input and oversight for WASH projects, including BOQs and drawings.
Lead technical feasibility assessments and site selection.
Supervise and guide civil technicians and field staff on construction quality and safety.
Ensure compliance with SPHERE and local WASH standards; document lessons learned.
Monitor progress, produce technical reports, and coordinate with stakeholders.
