Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD, seeks a Software Development Engineer to join a prototyping team. You will design and implement prototypes across software, AI, signal processing, and data visualization, collaborating with a close-knit group to transition concepts to operational use.

You will work on multi-sensor data exploitation, object tracking, and autonomous networks, contributing across engineering disciplines while embracing a culture that values

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in complex software development: OOP, database design, signal processing, sensor interfaces, AI, data visualization, and UI.
  • Strong knowledge of C++ or Java in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a close team environment.
  • Willingness to travel and work at government/military facilities including ships/aircraft.
  • Eligible for Interim Secret clearance by start date and eventual Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop concepts to solve critical military shortfalls as part of an established team.
  • Design and implement proof-of-concept prototypes across software, signal/video processing, AI, real-time computing, and visualization.
  • Support prototype evaluation, experiments at military facilities, and transitions to government or industry.
