Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland, is seeking a Real-time Tactical Software Engineer to prototype and test software for command and control challenges in missile defense.

You will work with users and engineers across concept definition, algorithm design, implementation, and testing, applying modern development methods, CI, and rapid iteration to deliver extensible, testable software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2+ years of software development experience.
  • Experience with object-oriented languages (C++ preferred).
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python preferred).
  • Familiar with DevOps toolchains (e.g. Gitlab).
  • Willingness to travel to sponsor sites for tests and data collection.
  • Ability to obtain Interim Secret clearance and eventually Secret; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Understand user needs and use cases with engineers.
  • Design, implement, and test software solutions.
  • Refactor and add capabilities to real-time tactical systems.
  • Develop prototype software for concept design.
  • Use modern DevOps and rapid iteration practices.
  • Communicate designs and results through reports and peer reviews.
