Job summary

Bunzl Kansas City is seeking a Transportation Clerk to provide administrative support to the transportation department. Responsibilities include filing freight claims, reviewing DOT logs for compliance, and negotiating freight rates while assisting in warehouse tasks as needed.

The role operates on a 7am-3:30pm shift with compensation at $23/hour. Ideal candidates have a minimum of 2 years of transportation admin experience and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• High School/GED education required.
• Knowledge of local, state and federal DOT/FMCSR rules.
• Minimum of 2 years of transportation administration/clerk experience.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• AS400/iSeries experience preferred, especially inventory/receiving.
• Able to multi-task with accuracy and speed.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily routes based on customer needs to ensure on-time deliveries.
• Review DOT/FMCSR logs for compliance and accuracy.
• Negotiate freight rates and review costs for cost effectiveness.
• File freight claims with the applicable carrier.
• Assist warehouse duties as required and coordinate with drivers for efficiency.
• Communicate with drivers to maintain strong customer satisfaction.

Description

The Transportation Clerk will provide administrative support to the transportation department including filing freight claims, reviewing DOT logs for compliance, negotiating freight rates and assisting in the warehouse as needed.

7am-3:30pm Shift | $23/hour

Responsibilities:

• Constant communication with driversto ensure on time deliveries/pick-ups and customer satisfaction
• Coordinate the routes daily based on customer needs
• Review LTL and UPS costs daily for cost effectiveness based on customer needs
• Filefreight claimswith the applicable carrier
• Using the AS400,negotiate freight rates for better service and cost effectiveness
• Review driver logs, hours of service, trip reports, driver reports, etc. for DOT/FMCSR compliance
• Assist with warehouse responsibilities as required

Requirements:

• High School/GED education required
• Detailed knowledge of local, state and federal DOT/FMCSR rules required
• Minimum of 2 years of transportation administration/clerk experience required, preferably in a warehouse/distribution environment
• Ability to perform clerical and administrative duties with speed and accuracy under limited supervision
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• AS400/iSeries experience preferred, particularly inventory/receiving functions
• Self-starter with the ability to multi-task projects
• Ability to answer a heavy volume of phone calls from both internal and external customers
• Must be a detail-orientated problem solver
• Experience with an Automatic On-Board Recording Device preferred (AOBRDS such as XATA and OmniTRACS)
