Job summary

Bunzl Distribution is hiring a Transportation Clerk in Kansas City, KS to support the transportation department with filing freight claims, reviewing DOT logs for compliance, and negotiating freight rates, while assisting in the warehouse as needed.

The 7am–3:30pm shift pays $23/hour. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, knowledge of DOT/FMCSR rules, at least two years in transportation administration, strong MS Office skills, and AS400/iSeries experience.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Knowledge of local, state and federal DOT/FMCSR rules required.
• Minimum of 2 years of transportation administration/clerk experience required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• AS400/iSeries experience preferred, particularly inventory/receiving functions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented and able to multi-task under limited supervision.
• Ability to handle high volume phone calls from internal and external customers.
• Experience with AOBRDS (XATA/OmniTRACS) preferred.
• Previous driver experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant communication with drivers to ensure on-time deliveries and customer satisfaction.
• Coordinate daily routes based on customer needs.
• Review LTL and UPS costs daily for cost effectiveness.
• File freight claims with the applicable carrier.
• Negotiate freight rates using AS400 for better service and cost effectiveness.
• Review driver logs and DOT/FMCSR compliance.
• Assist with warehouse responsibilities as required.

Transportation Clerk

The Transportation Clerk will provide administrative support to the transportation department including filing freight claims, reviewing DOT logs for compliance, negotiating freight rates and assisting in the warehouse as needed.

7am-3:30pm Shift | $23/hour

Responsibilities:

• Constant communication with drivers to ensure on time deliveries/pick-ups and customer satisfaction
• Coordinate the routes daily based on customer needs
• Review LTL and UPS costs daily for cost effectiveness based on customer needs
• File freight claims with the applicable carrier
• Using the AS400, negotiate freight rates for better service and cost effectiveness
• Review driver logs, hours of service, trip reports, driver reports, etc. for DOT/FMCSR compliance
• Assist with warehouse responsibilities as required

Requirements:

• High School/GED education required
• Detailed knowledge of local, state and federal DOT/FMCSR rules required
• Minimum of 2 years of transportation administration/clerk experience required, preferably in a warehouse/distribution environment
• Ability to perform clerical and administrative duties with speed and accuracy under limited supervision
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• AS400/iSeries experience preferred, particularly inventory/receiving functions
• Self-starter with the ability to multi-task projects
• Ability to answer a heavy volume of phone calls from both internal and external customers
• Must be a detail-orientated problem solver
• Experience with an Automatic On-Board Recording Device preferred (AOBRDS such as XATA and OmniTRACS)
• Previous commercial driver experience a plus
