Sonaca North America is seeking a Shipping and Receiving Supervisor to oversee staff in shipping/receiving and material handling. You will supervise, interview, hire, train, and manage performance in alignment with company policies and laws.
You will verify shipments, update databases, plan layouts, ensure proper packaging, and maintain regulatory records. The role requires forklift operation, lean manufacturing experience, and AS400 knowledge, with a focus on 6S improvements.
We are currently seeking a Shipping and Receiving Supervisor. The supervisor will directly supervise employees in the areas of shipping/receiving and material handling. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in a manner consistent with company expectations, policies and philosophies.
Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, and preparing items for shipment by performing the following duties: Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules. Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments assuring parts are packaged and preserved in a manner that prevents damage during transit. Responsible for updating Microsoft Access Database with corresponding machine, due date, quantity, and date received. Determines space requirements and position of shipments in crates and trucks and lays out position of shipment. Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states. Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications. Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance or outside services for repair. Maintains regulatory logs/records for trucks and drivers. Compiles records of unfilled orders. Post weight and shipping charges. Prepares bills of lading. Posts all shipments to Sonaca North America system. Manages tool crib activities and insures effective tool distribution support for production. Responsible for set up of tooling for production and inspection as required Identify and implements improvements in packaging methods and type to reduce cost and improve protection. Purchase all packaging supplies. Participate in plant projects. Operate fork trucks to retrieve various tooling to support production. Champion of 6S initiatives within department. Conducts forklift training and tests drivers upon completion of training. Oversee cycle counting activity.
2 - 3 years supervisory experience in shipping and receiving and/or material handling, preferably in the area of sheet metal fabrication. Bachelor’s degree in Business preferred. Experience with lean manufacturing tools and techniques as they relate to shipping/receiving and material handling. Experienced forklift driver with excellent work record. Cycle counting experience. Ability to understand technical specifications and to convey such information in a manner that is clearly understood by layman, and not subject to misinterpretation. Experience with AS400 and Job scope preferred.
The Shipping Receiving Supervisor must possess the necessary leadership traits to assure the effective, consistent performance of departmental activities.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time Noise levels ranging from quiet to extremely loud Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working on the manufacturing floor including, but not limited to, eye, ear, and foot protection May occasionally lift and /or move up to 10-50 pounds.
