Job description

At a Glance:

This position performs manual labor and assist with routine clerical work in a warehouse function such as receiving, storing items, surplus, moving office and classroom furniture in a central warehouse or major institution within a large warehouse. This position will require heavy lifting and operating material handling equipment such as floor jacks, forklift and dollies.

This position is classified as Warehouse Operator 1 under Washington State Classification Specifications.

Successful candidates typically start towards the beginning of the salary range and will receive scheduled salary increases.

Warehouse & Surplus Duties 85%:
  • Pick-up any and all material/equipment no longer needed by institutional programs that have been reviewed by the individual with signature authority.
  • Evaluate the condition and possible use by other programs so that it may be transferred to the institutional stockpile of office or classroom furniture.
  • Data entry, for tracking purpose, of pertinent information for audit reporting.
  • Operates lift trucks, hand trucks, pallet jacks, dollies, carts, and other loading and moving equipment necessary for daily operations.
  • Maintains good safety practices; maintains warehouse arrangement and maximizes space utilization to accommodate current stock.
  • Store surplus items for next sale.
  • Perform duties involved in maintenance, arrangement and cleanliness of the warehouse / worksite and its equipment.
  • Prepare auction items for pickup.
  • Assists with moves, and disposal of surplus or excess property;
Shipping & Receiving Duties 10%:
  • Receives, loads, unloads, moves, stores and distributes materials, including flammable and hazardous materials, and equipment.
  • Inspects incoming items to verify conditions and quantities received
  • Make campus deliveries
Print Shop & Office Duties 5% (as needed):
  • Provides exceptional customer service and creates a welcoming environment for all visitors, staff, faculty and students
  • Assist with collects incoming mail and freight from USPS and drops off outgoing mail and freight to USPS daily as needed.
  • Sorts, delivers, and processes mail, parcels and packages including bulk mail, business reply, insured, registered, certified, and regular mail
  • Complete Print Shop request and make campus deliveries.
  • Prepare invoices
  • Participates in ice and snow removal during inclement weather conditions
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs
  • Ability to stand, bend, twist and move for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to maneuver in tight spaces and on different surfaces.
  • Ability to use various equipment to load/unload freight, furniture and other materials.
  • Safety work boots are required to perform all duties of this job.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills (speak, read & write English)
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team and independently
  • Proficiency in computer programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, etc.) and Google Suite.
  • Ability to obtain a valid driver's license within 6 months
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification within 6 months.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license
  • Associate's degree in a related field
  • Familiarity with the use and care of copy machines and mail equipment
  • Forklift Certification
  • Experience in a higher education setting
