Position Summary
The Warehouse Assistant is responsible for the efficient movement, storage, organization, and distribution of food and supplies for Food for Thought and other Park View Community Mission programs. This hands‑on position focuses on warehouse operations, inventory management, equipment operation, and volunteer support. The successful candidate will help ensure that food moves safely and efficiently from donation to distribution while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment for all of Park View’s programs.
Schedule
Approximately 20 hours per week, including some flexibility for food bank pickups, deliveries, and volunteer events.
Primary Responsibilities
Warehouse Operations
- Receive, unload, organize, and store food and supply deliveries.
- Maintain warehouse inventory and stock levels.
- Prepare food and supplies for distribution programs.
- Load and unload vehicles for food pickups and deliveries.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient warehouse.
- Assist with food bag packing and pantry distribution activities.
- Monitor food quality and storage practices in compliance with food safety standards.
Equipment Operation
- Safely operate pallet jacks, electric pallet stackers, forklifts, and other warehouse equipment.
- Move pallets and inventory throughout warehouse facilities.
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
- Maintain all warehouse safety procedures.
Logistics & Inventory
- Assist with warehouse layout and storage optimization.
- Help ensure adequate supplies are available for Food for Thought operations.
Volunteer Support
- Direct volunteers during warehouse and packing activities.
- Ensure volunteers have safe and meaningful work assignments.
- Communicate warehouse procedures and safety expectations.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Operate pallet jacks, pallet stackers, forklifts, and box trucks.
- Stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the workday.
- Work in warehouse environments with varying temperatures.
Qualifications
- Experience in warehouse operations or food distribution preferred.
- Experience operating pallet jacks and forklifts strongly preferred.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification within three months of hire.
- Ability to become trained on manual and electric pallet stackers.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
