Barrett Petfood in Minnesota seeks a Warehouse & Distribution Manager to lead receiving, storage, inventory control, and shipping in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

You will develop and enforce SOPs, supervise 20+ staff, coordinate with Production, Purchasing, QA, Customer Service, and Operations, and drive continuous improvement while maintaining 99%+ inventory accuracy and strict regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in warehouse/logistics or supply chain management.
• 3+ years inventory management in food manufacturing or distribution.
• 3+ years leadership supervising 20+ employees.
• Experience with WMS/ERP, inventory control, and FIFO/FEFO.
• Knowledge of HACCP, SQF, GMP, or BRC preferred.

Responsibilities

Purpose: Warehouse & Distribution Manager

The Warehouse & Distribution Manager is responsible for leading all warehouse, inventory, shipping, receiving, and transportation operations in a fast-paced food manufacturing and distribution environment. This position ensures efficient product flow, inventory accuracy, regulatory compliance, food safety, and operational excellence while providing strong leadership to warehouse personnel. The Warehouse & Distribution Manager partners with Production, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Customer Service, and Operations to support business objectives through safe, accurate, and cost-effective warehouse and logistics management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all warehouse operations including receiving, storage, inventory control, order fulfillment, shipping, and distribution.
• Develop, implement, and enforce warehouse policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and best practices.
• Ensure efficient utilization of warehouse space, equipment, and labor resources.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment.
• Recruit, coach, train, and develop warehouse supervisors and associates.
• Monitor warehouse performance metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain inventory accuracy of 99% or greater through cycle counting, audits, reconciliation, and inventory control processes.
• Lead annual physical inventories and ongoing cycle count programs.
• Investigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
• Manage inventory adjustments, production transfers, and inventory reporting.
• Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with Purchasing and Operations to prevent shortages or excess inventory.
• Ensure proper inventory rotation using FIFO/FEFO methodologies.
• Manage lot tracking, batch control, expiration dates, and full product traceability.
• Direct all inbound and outbound shipping and receiving activities.
• Coordinate transportation with freight carriers, third-party logistics providers, vendors, and customers.
• Optimize transportation methods and freight costs while maintaining service levels.
• Monitor on-time shipments, shipping accuracy, and delivery performance.
• Resolve transportation, shipping, and receiving issues promptly.
• Maintain accurate warehouse documentation and inventory transactions, ensure data integrity within WMS/ERP systems, and uphold compliance with FDA, GMP, HACCP, SQF, OSHA, and other applicable food safety and regulatory requirements while supporting internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
• Partner with Production, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Customer Service, and Operations to ensure uninterrupted product flow.
• Analyze warehouse and inventory trends and recommend process improvements.
• Support company initiatives focused on operational excellence, cost reduction, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Education and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of warehouse, logistics, or supply chain management experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of inventory management experience in food manufacturing, ingredient, or food distribution environment.
• Minimum of 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing warehouse teams.
• Experience leading teams of 20 or more employees preferred.
• Strong knowledge of: Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems, Inventory Control, Shipping and Receiving Operations, Lot and Batch Tracking, FIFO/FEFO inventory management, Transportation and carrier management, Food safety regulations and warehouse compliance
• Experience in HACCP, SQF, GMP, BRC, or other GFSI-certified facilities preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the manufacturing facility.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, reach, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, and perform other physical activities required in a manufacturing environment.
• Climb and descend stairs and ladders safely and routinely, including accessing elevated work areas and equipment.
• Ability to safely operate or work from a scissor lift to access elevated equipment and production areas for inspection, verification, and environmental or sanitation sampling
• Maintain balance and stability while working on elevated platforms, stairs, ladders, and uneven or wet surfaces, as applicable.
• Work in varying environmental conditions, including areas that may be hot, cold, wet, humid, noisy, or subject to temperature fluctuations.
