Barrett Petfood is seeking an IT Business Systems Engineer based in Little Falls, Minnesota, to support ERP Plex, MES, and related systems. This is a hands-on technical role focused on application support, system administration, integrations, reporting, and continuous improvement.

You will work with IT leadership and business partners to ensure reliable operations, implement enhancements, and develop power users across the organization; on-site collaboration with manufacturing teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience in software development, application support, and systems administration.
• ERP/MES/enterprise systems experience preferred but not required.
• Experience with manufacturing ERP systems and Plex is a plus.
• Experience with system integrations, APIs, and data scripting is preferred.

Purpose:

The IT Business Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing Barrett Petfood's core business and manufacturing systems, with a primary focus on ERP (Plex), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), system integrations, reporting, and related applications. This is a hands‑on technical role that combines application support, system administration, troubleshooting, testing, documentation, integration support, and continuous improvement.

This role is not primarily focused on desktop support, hardware support, printers, or general help desk ticket resolution. The primary focus is business applications, ERP/MES support, integrations, reporting, documentation, and system improvement.

The IT Business Systems Engineer will work closely with IT Leadership, the IT Business Systems Lead, IT Operations, business stakeholders, and external technology partners to support reliable system operation, reduce dependency on individual system knowledge, and help expand Barrett Petfood's internal technical capabilities over time.

Responsibilities:

• Support the day‑to‑day performance, reliability, configuration, and administration of Barrett's ERP (Plex), MES, and related business systems.
• Develop strong functional and technical knowledge of Barrett's core business systems and serve as an internal resource for system administration and support.
• Troubleshoot application, configuration, integration, data, and user‑related issues and coordinate resolution with IT leadership, the IT Business Systems Lead, IT Operations, or external vendors as appropriate.
• Support manufacturing, supply chain, finance, quality, and other business teams with system questions, issues, and process improvements.
• Assist with system enhancements, upgrades, new modules, integrations, configuration changes, and process‑improvement initiatives.
• Support system integrations, EDI processes, APIs, interfaces, and reliable data flow between business applications.
• Assist with the development, modification, or support of smaller technical solutions, scripts, reports, interfaces, or application enhancements based on business needs and individual technical capabilities.
• Test and validate system changes, vendor‑developed solutions, enhancements, integrations, and upgrades before deployment into production.
• Help identify opportunities for automation, standardization, simplification, and improved user experience.
• Support user administration, system configuration, access management, and other application administration activities.
• Assist in developing and supporting knowledgeable business system power users across the organization.
• Partner with IT Operations to help ensure the integrity, availability, security, backup, recovery, and continuity of business systems and data.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, support procedures, system configurations, integration documentation, and knowledge‑sharing practices.
• Build knowledge across multiple business and manufacturing systems to help reduce organizational dependency on individual system knowledge.
• Take on increasing technical responsibility and system ownership as experience, capability, and business knowledge develop.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant education or experience will be considered.
• Experience in software development, application support, systems administration, integrations, databases, APIs, scripting, or other technical disciplines preferred.
• ERP, MES, manufacturing systems, or enterprise business systems experience preferred but not required.
• Experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
• Plex ERP experience is a plus but not required. Candidates with strong technical aptitude and demonstrated ability to quickly learn complex systems will be considered.
• Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) is a plus.
• Experience with system integrations, APIs, databases, EDI, or related technologies is preferred.
• Experience supporting or troubleshooting business‑critical applications is preferred.
• Recent graduates with strong technical fundamentals, demonstrated problem‑solving ability, and an interest in business and manufacturing systems are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods throughout the manufacturing facility.
• Ability to bend, reach, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, and perform other physical activities required in a manufacturing environment.
• Work in varying environmental conditions, including areas that may be hot, cold, wet, humid, noisy, or subject to temperature fluctuations.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $60,000-$85,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, technical expertise, and overall fit for the role.
