Job description

This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement with a base weekly rate of $1,321.46 for weekdays worked Monday - Friday. Additional earnings are available for nightly and weekend performances, outside events, and extra hours worked.

We are seeking a Wardrobe Supervisor to join the Metropolitan Opera’s wardrobe team, responsible for bringing our opera productions to life.

This full-time role guarantees employment for 49 weeks per year, including 5 weeks of paid vacation.

The employment terms are governed by the Met’s collective bargaining agreement with Local 764.

The Wardrobe Supervisor will oversee the dressing area for Ladies Solo Artists.

The ideal candidate:

• Has prior supervisory experience, preferably in a union environment
• Is an excellent communicator, both written and verbal, and proficient with technology
• Maintains poise and professionalism in fast-paced, high-pressure situations
• Can work effectively with performers, crew, and diverse personality types
• Supports the Met’s commitment to a safe, respectful, and supportive workplace

Primary Responsibilities include:

1. Coordinating with wardrobe and production departments
2. Managing daily costume maintenance, including laundry, dry cleaning, fittings, repairs, and daywork
3. Executing show cues, managing post-show and changeover duties, and developing dressing tracks
4. Maintaining wardrobe documentation such as notes, dressing tracks, and size charts to preserve design integrity
5. Packing costumes for rentals and warehouse moves

Physical Demands:

1. Lifting QC baskets and costumes, standing for long periods, and moving swiftly backstage
2. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
