Walmart Category Development Team Leader

Location: Bentonville, AR, US

The Walmart Category Development Team Leader will manage a team of Category Development Managers (CDMs), collaborating with Walmart merchant teams to drive category sales and market share growth. This role requires fluency in category management tools, leading category strategy and growth processes that translate into actionable insights. The leader will oversee and develop the Walmart category management team across all categories Edgewell participates in, with some roles acting as advisors or validators.

This position involves team leadership, data analysis, decision validation, and strategy development to optimize category performance. Prior experience as a Category Advisor or Validator is mandatory, along with leadership experience and familiarity with Scintilla and Syndicated data.

This role reports directly to the corporate Director of Category Development and involves high visibility.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the category development team to develop and implement effective growth strategies, utilizing skills such as:
  • Deep data analysis across platforms like Walmart Scintilla, Circana, Stackline, Weather Trends, Placer.AI, and Commerce IQ to understand business trends and implications.
  • Enhance current category reporting tools.
  • Understand and influence the OMNI landscape, including digital penetration metrics and online strategies.
  • Develop modular recommendations to improve the shopping experience, leveraging merchandising principles, Walmart’s strategic direction, operational efficiency, and shopper insights.
  • Familiarity with JDA and assortment recommendation drivers, including SKU rationalization and transferability.
  1. Provide thought leadership across categories, collaborating with Corporate Category Development, Strategy, and Global Consumer Insights.
  2. Maintain and develop relationships with Walmart Merchant leadership (DMM level).
  3. Lead and develop the team of Category Development Managers.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Circana, Scintilla, Retail Link, JDA, and Power BI.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and recommend actions.
  • Attention to detail and ability to craft compelling category stories.
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative shopper and consumer insights.
  • Understanding of Walmart’s Advisory Team principles and confidentiality expectations.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, organize, prioritize, and think strategically.
Minimum Requirements:

- 7+ years in category management, including 2+ years as an advisor or validator.

- 3+ years in people management.
