Duties

The purpose of this position is to perform beverage service function in a bar or lounge. Ask patrons what beverage are desired, and describe or suggest cocktails, highballs, wines, or other beverages on request. Give orders to bartender. Add fruit or decorations as required. Receive and place beverages on a small tray and serve patrons. Observe when patrons leave and clean table. Return used glassware to bar. Maintain clean work area. Collect payment from patrons when drinks are served. May dispense bottled beverages, confections, and tobacco, or serve any item on request of the patron. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Responsibility

Assigned to workstation by the supervisor and given specific and detailed instructions. Responsible for complying with standard methods and procedures such as conduct, etiquette, dress code, and table setting techniques.

Working Conditions

Work is normally performed inside with adequate lighting and heat. Exposed to the possibility of minor cuts, bruises, and slippery floors.

Qualifications Required

Minimum

• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions.
• Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, walk and do moderate lifting for long periods of time.

Preferred

• Skill to serve beverages in the proper manner; knowledge of composition of popular cocktails, types of beverages served, and availability of wines and their proper serving temperatures.
• Knowledge of simple math calculations to tabulate checks.
• Ability to recognize intoxicated patrons when serving alcohol.
