Job summary

Forsyth County seeks an entry-level technician to perform preventive maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, and communication equipment at water and wastewater facilities. You will assist licensed electricians, work with telemetry/SCADA, and help install or remove equipment as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent with 6 months of related experience, and a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Participates in preventive maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical and communication equipment at facilities.
• Assists with maintenance of electrical systems, telemetry and SCADA; supports licensed electricians with high voltage work.
• Inspects, maintains and repairs pumps, chemical feeders, chlorinators, transmission fans, gear boxes and other mechanical equipment; performs preventive maintenance.
• Inspects and repairs air release valves, tanks and booster stations, and transmission line valves; provides electrical services for these.
• Observes and monitors flow meters, amp meters and pressure gauges to ensure operating standards.
• Completes paperwork for work orders and maintenance records; meets with contractors; on-call for emergencies.

Job description

The purpose of this classification is to perform administrative and entry level specialized technical tasks to complete preventive maintenance and repair of complex mechanical, electrical and communication equipment at the water and wastewater pump stations, lift stations, and water tanks. This is an entry level position in the field of electrical and mechanical water and wastewater equipment and systems.

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Participates in the preventive maintenance and repair activities of mechanical, electrical and communication equipment at assigned facilities.

Assists with the maintenance and repairs all electrical systems and components; telemetry and SCADA systems; provides assistance to licensed electricians and contractors with high voltage electrical work; assists in installing new equipment, removing small motors for repair and re-installing the same.

Inspects, maintains and repairs pumps, chemical feeders, chlorinators, transmission fans, gear boxes, and other mechanical equipment; rebuilds and replaces parts; performs preventive maintenance.

Inspects and repairs air release valves, tanks and booster stations, and transmission line valves; provides all electrical services for the same.

Observes and monitors flow meters, amp meters, and pressure gauges to determine compliance with operating standards.

Completes related maintenance tasks; fuels and lubricate systems; repairs lighting systems; conducts security inspections.

Completes paperwork for work orders, maintenance records.

Meets with contractors; assists with access to worksites, provides requested information.

Remains on-call to perform emergency tasks as needed.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

This classification is designated as a safety sensitive position which is subject to random drug and alcohol testing and any other drug testing methods as stated in policies adopted by Forsyth County concerning drug and alcohol.

Performs other related duties as required.

High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by 6 months previous experience in plumbing, electrical or mechanical work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
