POSITION:

Part-time, Adjunct Instructor

RESPONSIBILITIES:

VTSU Online uses Canvas and provides a generic course template for all courses. The instructor is responsible for adding outcomes, academic materials, discussion and assignment that support the course description. Additionally, VTSU Online instructors are obligated to adhere to the VTSU Online Standards that address instructor presence, student engagement, instructor expectations, and assessment of student work.

Course description:

This course explores the meaning of work and play in people’s lives from the standpoint of positive psychology. This subfield of psychology focuses on helping people understand and enhance their strengths and virtues so that they may lead fulfilling lives. Rather than the traditional psychological emphasis on mental health problems, positive psychology is about helping normal people become happier, more productive, and cultivate optimism. We explore the values people hold for work and play, while considering the challenges and rewards of “the good life.” General education: This course fulfills the Social Science general education requirement.

Qualifications:

For consideration, candidates must possess at least a master's degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience. Faculty are responsible for designing their own course with the full support of an instructional designer and the structured VTSU Online Canvas Template. Instructors are expected to add weekly content including outcomes, readings, videos, discussions, and assessments in alignment with the course description, and follow and VTSU Online Standards of course design, readiness, instructor presence, engagement, assessment, and accessibility. The full course must be ready and published at least one week prior to the start of the semester.

Compensation is dependent upon online teaching experience (within and outside of the Vermont State Colleges System) and bargaining unit status; the starting range is between $1000-1250 per credit.
