Job summary

Qualifications

• DCF childcare hours preferred or willing to obtain in 30 days.
• Experience as daycare assistant or summer camp counselor preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a professional manner and provide excellent customer service.
• Resolve conflicts with children and parents; be firm but friendly.
• Check in/out students and monitor during activities.
• Assist students with learning tasks and pass out snacks.
• Supervise until all children are picked up; substitute when needed.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Details:

• Employment Hours are 11am-5:30pm - The job is for all five days a week when school is in session. Employee does not work teacher workday.
• The person would also ideally be able to work occasionally 8am-5pm then come in the rest of the week later - max is 30 hours per week
• Pay will be $16 per hour.
• Worker Dress code - no skin tight clothing, no revealing clothing, no face piercings, no hoodies, no sandals/slides/crocs - must be in closed toe shoes.
• Opportunities for advancement to full time aide 7:30-4pm with benefits (day time), front desk (day time), VPK teacher, etc.
• If doing well, this candidate would be offered a full time position if one becomes available.
• Documents: If hired, you will need your SS card and DL OR a passport. You will need to pay for your own fingerprint screening in the few days after the interview - please do not apply if you would not be able to meet this expectation.
• Expectation is if not already holding the DCF 40 hours certificate is you would obtain this in the first few weeks of hire - we can assist and have you do some hours on the clock too! Personnel must be willing to complete the trainings and pass the exams.

Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for assisting in maintenance of an orderly, safe and pleasant atmosphere in the VPK classroom by helping and supervising students during VPK extended hours for small groups of students in accordance with CSUSA policy and established school procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• This position is one that is in the public eye and program assistants must always reflect a professional manner as well as provide excellent customer service.
• Candidates must be able to resolve conflicts with children and parents, possess the ability to be firm but friendly, and must be able to be courteous and professional when dealing with parents, children and other co-workers. Program assistant reports to the Director of VPK and to the school assistant principal.
• Follows proper student sign in and dismissal procedures for VPK.
• Follows proper student check in and dismissal procedures for VPK.
• Monitors students.
• Observes who enters and leaves child care area.
• Assists students with learning tasks.
• Passes out snacks.
• Plays with students in activities.
• Supervises until all children are picked up from the program.
• Substitutes for the other VPK aides when needed.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or higher education credential.
• Preferred DCF childcare hours - or willing to obtain in first 30 days.
• Previous experience as daycare assistant or summer camp counselor, preferred.
• Must like children.
