Job summary

First Tech Federal Credit Union is seeking a Vice President, Total Rewards to shape enterprise compensation, benefits, wellness, and payroll programs that attract and retain talent aligned with business objectives.

You will lead strategy, program design, governance, and executive partnerships to balance employee experience with financial sustainability and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience across enterprise Total Rewards disciplines including compensation strategy & administration, payroll operations, wellbeing programs, HR tech, data governance, and compliance.
  • 8+ years’ experience as a people leader, building and guiding diverse teams.
  • Extensive experience designing and governing benefits strategy, plan design, vendor management, and administration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the enterprise benefits strategy and long‑term plans for health, welfare, retirement, leave, and wellbeing programs.
  • Direct design, evaluation, and enhancement of benefit programs for competitiveness and cost efficiency.
  • Oversee benefit plan administration, governance, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
  • Lead benefits budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning balancing value and cost.
  • Benchmark market trends and regulations to inform strategy and investments.
  • Partner with executives to define benefits priorities and workforce strategies.
  • Manage relationships with carriers, consultants, brokers, and third‑party admins.
  • Communicate and educate employees to improve understanding and utilization of benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing benefit plans.
  • Build and lead a high‑performing benefits team.

Description

The Vice President, Total Rewards provides enterprise leadership for the design, strategy, governance, and delivery of compensation, benefits, wellness, and payroll programs that attract, retain, engage, and support employees while advancing the credit union's business objectives and values. This role is responsible for developing a comprehensive total rewards strategy that balances employee experience, market competitiveness, financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, and organizational priorities. This person oversees the design, administration, and continuous evolution of total rewards programs, ensuring offerings remain competitive, scalable, and aligned with workforce and business needs. The role maintains accountability for program effectiveness, compliance, governance, vendor and consultant management, data integrity, and operational excellence across the total rewards portfolio.

What You’ll Do:
  • Develop and lead the enterprise benefits strategy, establishing priorities and long‑term plans for health, welfare, retirement, leave, and wellbeing programs.
  • Direct the design, evaluation, and ongoing enhancement of benefit programs to ensure they remain competitive, cost‑effective, and aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Provide executive oversight of benefit plan administration, governance, compliance, and operational effectiveness across all benefit offerings.
  • Lead benefits‑related financial planning, forecasting, and budget management, balancing employee value with organizational cost stewardship.
  • Evaluate emerging market trends, legislative developments, and benchmarking data to inform strategic program recommendations and future benefit investments.
  • Partner with executive leadership, Human Resources, Finance, Legal, and other stakeholders to define benefits priorities and support broader workforce strategies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with benefit carriers, consultants, brokers, and third‑party administrators, negotiating agreements and holding partners accountable for performance and service delivery.
  • Oversee the development and execution of employee communication and education strategies that improve understanding, engagement, and utilization of benefit programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing employee benefit plans and related programs.
  • Build, develop, and lead a high‑performing benefits team, fostering strong operational execution, continuous improvement, and strategic capability within the function.

Essential Skills:
  • 10+ years’ experience across enterprise Total Rewards disciplines, including compensation strategy and administration, payroll operations, workforce wellbeing programs, HR technology platforms, data governance, and regulatory compliance
  • 8+ years’ experience as a people leader, leading a diverse team including hiring, coaching and performance management
  • Significant progressive experience leading benefits strategy, plan design, administration, and vendor management within a large or complex organization.
  • Deep knowledge of health and welfare plans, retirement programs, leave practices, and benefits‑related regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute long‑term strategies that balance employee experience, organizational objectives, and financial considerations.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders, communicate complex topics, and drive organizational decision‑making.
  • Experience managing large budgets, vendor contracts, and complex benefits‑related initiatives.
  • Advanced analytical, financial, and problem‑solving capabilities, including benefits benchmarking and cost analysis.
  • Proven track record of leading teams and delivering results through organizational change, growth, or transformation.
  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in field relevant to role (or 4 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree), advanced degree preferred.

Target Compensation

$197k - $247k annually + annual bonus
