Job description

Generate Capital is building a dedicated equipment sourcing and procurement function to support the delivery of complex, large-load power solutions for data centers and other infrastructure customers. As VP, Sourcing & Procurement, you will build the equipment procurement function that keeps those solutions supplied.

This role owns equipment procurement strategy: moving Generate from sourcing equipment reactively, project by project, to holding a proactive, well-mapped set of options across new and used power generation equipment that can be deployed quickly for Generate's own projects or offered to prospective customers.

What you will be doing at Generate Capital as the VP, Sourcing & Procurement:
  • Build and lead a proactive, direct-sourcing procurement function for power generation equipment, spanning new and used prime mover generation, including reciprocating engines, gas turbines and fuel cells. As projects mature, battery energy storage (BESS), and other key project specific electrical equipment will be the responsibility of this role as well.
  • Build standing generation optionality matched across a pipeline of projects and customers.
  • Map and maintain a comprehensive, living view of every manufacturer, packager, and bank or advisor channeling equipment into the market, and convert it into a maintained approved vendor list.
  • Work across teams to evaluate equipment options for technical fit, availability, and commercial risk in proposed customer solutions and investments
  • Build direct relationships with OEMs (e.g., Siemens) and packagers, reducing reliance on brokers so Generate can negotiate and transact directly with the source of supply
  • Attend industry conferences and trade shows to build this visibility in the market
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms directly with manufacturers and packagers, including travel to manufacturing floors as needed
  • Support project delivery teams from Notice to Proceed through Commercial Operation on equipment delivery, warranty administration, and supplier performance
  • Formalize equipment procurement processes, policies, and controls for a function that has so far been managed informally alongside other responsibilities
  • Coordinate with Asset Operations on technical qualification of equipment and suppliers, so that specification conformance and lifecycle serviceability are confirmed before equipment is reserved or purchased
  • Build a bench of fast response resources that Generate can use to diligence equipment opportunities to drive decision making in competitive timelines
Candidate qualifications & core characteristics:
  • 10-12 years of experience in power generation, storage, or infrastructure engineering, procurement, or sourcing
  • Personable and confident in entrepreneurial, less-structured settings -- comfortable building relationships and negotiating directly with manufacturers, packagers, and financial intermediaries
  • Direct experience sourcing or procuring capital equipment -- power generation equipment strongly preferred -- including working with OEMs, packagers, and financial intermediaries in new and secondary/used equipment markets
  • Direct experience in rotating-equipment markets -- reciprocating engines, gas turbines, fuel cells -- including new, refurbished, and secondary/used equipment channels.
  • Sufficient technical grounding to judge equipment application and acceptability -- ratings and duty cycle, emissions and permitting implications, fuel and aftermarket parts support, serviceability, and remaining life on refurbished or used units
  • Familiarity with EPC delivery models and owner-furnished equipment arrangements, including delivery, liability, and schedule interfaces
  • Experience building a procurement or sourcing function from limited existing infrastructure, including policies, controls, and supporting systems
  • Willing and able to walk manufacturer floors, negotiate in person, and manage a deal from first contact to close independently and confidently
  • Proven ability to balance innovation with standardization and execution discipline
  • Comfortable operating in a cross-functional environment with commercial, development, and investment teams
  • Clear communicator able to translate technical complexity into actionable business insight
