Job summary

Alliance Defending Freedom seeks a Sr. Counsel, Vice President of Government Affairs in Lansdowne, VA / Washington, D.C. to lead the national government affairs strategy and oversee the U.S.

Government Affairs team. You will supervise senior staff, interact with lawmakers, draft legislation and testimony, and advance ADF’s strategic plan. Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school with an active license in at least one US state bar.
• 10+ years of professional experience working in federal or state legislative or executive-branch settings.
• 4+ years of professional experience working in a federal legislative context.
• Experience managing teams of attorneys.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Travel up to 30% of the year.

Responsibilities

• Define and oversee plans and strategies to achieve legal objectives.
• Develop federal and state legislative tools and resources to defend interests.
• Direct engagement with federal and state officials to defend religious freedom and related issues.
• Direct advocacy before Congress and state legislatures.
• Oversee operational components of the Government Affairs team.
• Supervise Vice Presidents and Directors within Government Affairs.
• Develop relationships with lawmakers and executive-branch officials.
• Assist in developing legislation, testimony, position papers, and reports.
• Build alliances with like-minded policy groups.
• Testify in support of or against significant legislation.
• Represent ADF in media and at public events.
• Communicate strategy and objectives to Government Affairs team.
• Coordinate with Legal, Communications, and Development teams.
• Educate organization on Government Affairs work and impact.
• Measure effectiveness, report results, and initiate corrective action.
• Serve as primary spokesperson at meetings and events.
• Allocate resources to maximize objectives.
