Job summary

Sierra Pacific Mortgage seeks a Vice President of Underwriting to lead the residential underwriting team at a regional level, ensuring efficient file transfer and adherence to guidelines. You will coach, mentor, and train staff, enforce turnaround times, and coordinate with branches, sales, and post-closing teams to maintain high standards.

The role requires a deep understanding of Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and Non-Conforming products, and strong leadership to drive process improvements

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of operations and underwriting experience required
• Knowledge of investor and program requirements and guidelines
• Supervisory experience including communicating with other managers
• Understanding of residential lending: Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, Non-Conforming
• Reading and interpretation of loan documents and related directives
• Proficiency with basic math and mortgage-related calculations
• Basic computer skills: word processing, Excel, email

Responsibilities

• Oversee the functions of residential underwriting and manage underwriting team at the regional level
• Assist and support underwriting functions to ensure file transfer is efficient
• Coach, mentor, and train underwriting staff
• Maintain turnaround times by holding the team accountable
• Manage workload and pipeline as needed
• Respond to scenarios and queue for new submissions and conditions flow
• Act as main liaison for underwriters, branches, sales, and post-closing submissions
• Review and sign off on underwriting and closing conditions
• Answer questions on loan programs and status of loans in process
• Support underwriting outsourcing implementations
• Review files from insuring and shipping for missing documentation
• Collaborate with national operations to improve processes
• Perform other mortgage-related duties as assigned
